Brad Morton, "Contemporary Couple"
“I feel like I have traveled full-circle from the time I first became interested in sculpture. I thought I had wasted so much time because of the period I was in Industrial Design, but I began to realize it was the best foundation I could have for building a foundry, setting up my studio, and engineering the large outdoor pieces." -Brad Morton
The sculpture was created with the use of bronze, cor-ten, and stainless steel materials. "Contemporary Couple" is currently on display near the Education building.
An Alabama native, Morton holds a philosophy of “truth to the materials” and organic minimalism as inspirations behind the creation of his works. The sculptor began his artistic training in 1969 at Auburn University studying industrial design before earning his B.A. in Art from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 1981, he received his M.F.A. in Sculpture from the University of Georgia and in 1984 he built a small foundry in which he began casting.
A few years later, he moved the operation to his current studio where he works with a wide variety of metals.
